Recessions can put good people out of a job for absolutely no reason that relates to their skills or abilities. That&#039;s the worst part about a recession. Bad things happen to good people.

I think you&#039;re smart to use the opportunity to acquire additional expertise. Careers are long and we should always be investing in ourselves.</description>

Like that former Cision employee, I, too, am a product of the economic downturn.

My layoff happened slightly earlier (top of the summer). My dismissal came because of the slumping real estate market -- I worked for a small CPG company that relied partly on the new housing market.

As PR pros, we&#039;re going to need to work that much harder to justify ourselves -- it doesn&#039;t matter what you do or how well you do it, PR is a cost centre. Namely, if you don&#039;t have that solid line to sales, here&#039;s your package...

My attitude and outlook try to remain optimistic, but I&#039;ve since decided that I need to supplement my skillsets and knowledge base and head back to some sort of school program -- perhaps a more tangible or technical skill.</description>
