That's the worst part about a recession. Bad things happen to good people. I think you're smart to use the opportunity to acquire additional expertise. My layoff happened slightly earlier (top of the summer). My dismissal came because of the slumping real estate market -- I worked for a small CPG company that relied partly on the new housing market. As PR pros, we're going to need to work that much harder to justify ourselves -- it doesn't matter what you do or how well you do it, PR is a cost centre. Namely, if you don't have that solid line to sales, here's your package... My attitude and outlook try to remain optimistic, but I've since decided that I need to supplement my skillsets and knowledge base and head back to some sort of school program -- perhaps a more tangible or technical skill.
