[...] Social Media Breakfast Comes to Toronto Pro PR I am a big fan of the Social Media Breakfast series created by Bryan Person. I’ve attended most of the Boston breakfasts and have really gotten something out of them. So I’m happy to help Joseph Thornley spread the word about the breakfasts coming to Toronto–he’s actively looking for sponsors and other partners to host the breakfasts. See his post for more details. “Social Media Breakfast Toronto is being initiated by the people who organize Third Tuesday Toronto. The Third Tuesday Toronto community has grown to over 1,000 members who meet once a month after work to hear social media thought leaders talk about the newest developments in social media, online communities, Web apps, marketing and public relations.” [...]

Interesting. I'd love to come to this.
Richtree in BCE place holds a few breakfast events. Might be interesting to look into. Not sure about if they'll be able to hold 100, but at least 50-75 I would imagine.

As a last resort, I am happy to offer up my condo's party room. It's used a fair bit for events of this nature, and it will hold more than 100. It's at King/Bathurst area.
If it's a true breakfast event, we'd have to get someone to sponsor it for food. One of the beighbouring restaurants would be more than happy to cater for it.

Just some ideas that I thought I'd throw out there.

Hi Joe,

I was thinking maybe Ryerson would be a great place to hold it? There are a number of large conference rooms and with their PR, Marketing, New Media and Journalism programs it could be a great fit.

I know CSME did a lunch event at Oakham House, which has at least 2 spaces that would be large enough to accommodate this size of a group.

Definitely interested in helping out. Our crew of infiltrators was really impressed with SMB Ottawa and had been hoping to group up with some organizations interested in doing the same in Toronto.

Very interested in coming up with a way to work together!

Rick, Thanks for the great suggestions. The library hadn't occurred to me. We'll check that out. And I'll check out the Webfeed for your next event to see how you do it in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Joseph,
I've been organizing the SMBs down in Minneapolis/St. Paul since February last winter and have a couple venue tips to get started.

Since venues are hard to plan for initially, take a look at a larger public library. We recently had a great event with 68 folks at the Minneapolis Central Library which had great facilities and didn't cost us anything.

Another early venue that worked very well was a local university (Concordia University in St. Paul) let us use a large conference/classroom for no charge.

Both had WiFi and overhead projection systems and sound systems at the library. This let us spend the small initial sponsor funds on the food/beverage for the breakfast.

It's worked well so far - feel free to check in on our upcoming 6th event next Friday morning via the web feed (http://www.mogulus.com/smbmsp), and feel free to contact me directly if you'd like more information on some things we've done with ours (@rickmahn on Twitter or email: rick [at] rickmahn.com)

I'm looking forward to reading of your impending successes at SMB Toronto!
