Movember was started around the world a while ago, with Australia kicking off the first month to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
i think that's what's confusing. it's not just north america, and the term was used synonymously w/ raising awareness during november for cancer via 'stache growing.

Rayanne, You're not alone in being confused. Mustaches for Kids actually predates Movember, dating back to 1999. It's organized primarily around local groups in cities. In Ottawa, the group meets each week to check the growth of the staches and to encourage everyone to build fundraising momentum throughout the month.

Movember has been much better at developing a profile through social media and has become much better known that M4K. In fact, people routinely comment on my Movember stache.

Both M4K and Movember support good causes and help in a significant way. Regardless of whether you want to help sick kids or fund prostate cancer research is not as important as that you do something about it. I hope you'll contribute to the cause of your choice.

I'm confused. Isn't November Movember -- the month for growing your mustache to raise awareness and cash for prostate cancer? Why would there be two causes doing the exact same thing during the exact same month?
