About
Joseph Thornley is CEO of Thornley Fallis and 76design. He is a Senior Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research and Immediate Past Chair of the Canadian Council of Public Relations Firms.

Mr. Thornley is actively engaged with social media. He blogs at www.propr.ca, hosts a video podcast, Social Mediators and is co-host of the Inside PR podcast. He is @thornley on Twitter and Delicious, thornley10 on YouTube and Joseph Thornley on Facebook.

Mr. Thornley is a co-founder of the Third Tuesday Social Media events which bring together social media enthusiasts and communicators to explore new developments in social media and their impact on society, organizations and citizens. Third Tuesday events have been organized across Canada in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa and New Brunswick.

Mr. Thornley has been providing communications counsel to companies and organizations for over 25 years. Prior to co-founding Thornley Fallis in 1995, he spent over a decade in a series of progressively senior positions at Hill and Knowlton.

At the outset of his working career, Mr. Thornley served as Legislative Assistant to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Federal Minister of Finance and as Legislative Assistant and Executive Assistant to the Minister of Communications.

For forty years, he was actively engaged in Canada’s political process, holding several offices in the Liberal Party of Canada, including President of the Young Liberals of Canada, Secretary-Treasurer of the Liberal Party of Canada and Chairman of the Federal Liberal Agency of Canada.

In 2002, Mr. Thornley chaired the Liberal Leadership Campaign of Sheila Copps. For this sin, he was given the opportunity to pursue other interests. And that led him to social media.

Every November, he annoys his family by growing a mustache as part of the Mustaches for Kids campaign to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation and the Movember campaign to raise money for prostate cancer research.
