What future do you see for public relations?
Posted by Joseph Thornley on December 23rd, 2009
Hello Public Relations industry. Remember December 2009. That was the month that Google tells us that social media and social networking overtook public relations in the zeitgeist.
For the first time ever, searches for social media and social networking matched searches for public relations. December 2009.
Tell me again, where does the future of public relations lie?

[...] Joseph Thornly posted this graph from Google Tremnds that shows searches for public relations have been declining since 2004. Interest in social media and social networking started to pick up in 2006, grew slowly through 2007 and 2008 and really gained ground in 2009. In December 2009 searches for social media and social networking passed the number of searches for public relations. [...]

[...] Joseph Thornly did a quick google trends query to see how people are searching for terms I’m interested in on the web. No surprise….PR is no equal with Social Media and Social Networking. [...]

I think your research is skewed. You might want to compare social media with “PR” and not “Public Relations.” PR is the more often searched term.
